Welcome to the first annual June Institute for Schools at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines Iowa!  

We hope you find what you need across this 3-day event focused on supports in the areas of literacy, mathematics, social-emotional-behavioral well-being and mental health, subgroups, and culture/climate! This site is for all attendees to have access to presenters and session materials.  This is not where you register.    

Please note that registration must be completed within the AEA Registration System, and that special sessions are pre-registration only. Registration links for the Conference and Special Sessions are located HERE.

Implementing PBIS in High Schools - DAY 2

This four-part workshop focuses on implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in High Schools and is geared toward district and building leadership teams that are establishing a multi-tiered system to create a positive learning environment and promote student social, emotional and behavioral health. Recommended team members include district and building administrators or administrative designee, and team members who are representative of their school buildings. Participants will learn core features of PBIS and how the context of high schools impacts the development and implementation of systems and practices.  Content will appeal to both new and existing teams implementing PBIS in high schools. Participants are requested to bring the following data to be used for action planning during sessions, if available:  School-wide (SW) Behavior Matrix, SW Discipline Data report, TFI, SAS, S-SAMI and D-SAMI results.  

June 14th will include Parts 3 and 4 of the 4 part series.
PART 3: Engaging Stakeholders to Increase Buy-In
  • Recognize the importance of securing commitment from faculty, families, community and students
  • Discuss strategies for ensuring stakeholder engagement
  • Explore student engagement in terms of a continuum of participation and reflect on how your school is incorporating the voices of ALL students
  • Collaboratively generate ideas for increasing the degrees of participation for stakeholders
Take away/activity: Group generated menu showing ways schools/districts have integrated authentic youth voice.  Reflection time for elevating student, family, community engagement

PART 4: You’re Not Alone: Accessing Supports and Helpful Resources
  • Explore different methods of ongoing professional development through networking, Communities of Practice.
  • Engage in collaborative brainstorming around the development of district/regional networks to support high schools with implementation
  • Learn about existing high school specific resources
  • Compile team’s ideas generated during 2 day training and create an action plan with tasks identified and timeline for completion. (or add to team’s existing action plan)
Take away/activity: Collaboration within regions specific to ongoing supports
