Youth Mental Health First Aid - Training Group 1 - DAY 1

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches adults how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

Youth Mental Health First Aid certification teaches participants to:
  • Recognize the potential risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among adolescents.
  • Use a 5-step action plan to help a young person in crisis connect with appropriate professional help.
  • Interpret the prevalence of various mental health disorders in youth and recognize the need for reduced negative attitudes in their communities.
  • Apply knowledge of the appropriate resources available to help a young person with a mental health challenge.
  • Assess their own views and feelings about youth mental health problems and disorders.

Participants are required to attend the entire Training Group over day 1 and 2.  Registration is limited to 3 members of each building team in order to allow 20 schools to attend. At least one administrator from each building is encouraged, but not required, to attend. Materials will be provided at the training.
